PDS: Particulate Debris Spreading
The 3-phase (solid, liquid and gas) flow is a very challenging problem even despite significant advances in the development of the modern numerical computer codes. Crucial role in such development is availability of experimental data. These data provide valuable measures of the velocity, special distribution and temperature fields of each phase which are crucial for model and code validation.
The particulate debris spreading in the water pool (PDS-P) is used to quantify effect of the gas bubbles and liquid flow on special distribution of the particles released at the top of the pool. NPS has developed comprehensive particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique applied in PDS-P facility for visualization of the particle trajectories.
