Concrete Containment

The Nuclear Power Safety division maintains an experimental infrastructure for experiments at extreme conditions such as high temperature (up to 2000ºC) and explosive forces. To ensure personnel safety combined with necessity of collecting valuable scientific data we are equipped with a reinforced concrete containment and a fast data acquisition system (DAS). The bunker is a ~60 m3 in volume (internal) cube having 60 cm thick walls and has been certified for 6.5 bar static pressure. Besides the typical high-speed signal-acquisition (like temperature, pressure, fiber-optical and contactless sensing, impact forces, etc.), the DAS includes high speed cameras capable of taking thousands of color pictures per second.

In addition, we have a number of different heat sources and power generators which can provide resistive or inductive heating and melting capabilities for various materials and applications.
